A Cambridge scientist has recently published an image of Cleopatra based on years of research. The depiction of the Egyptian queen is of a mixed race women with round features. She looks brown to me. I was taught as a child that Cleopatra was Black. The drawings and busts I saw of Cleopatra always appeared to have African features and brown skin. I always thought that people liked to disregard this fact.
Of course what is considered Black varies from country to country. It’s more tribal than color across the globe, even in some countries in Africa. This is the case in Sudan where the Arabs are actually indigenous Black Africans that are Arabic speaking Muslims. The only difference between the Arabs and Blacks there are religion and nomadic way of life that the Muslims adopted from Arabs centuries ago.
Did anyone else think that Cleopatra was Black?
