What If Big Was The Standard For Beauty?

Big is often regarded as beautiful in Mauritania, but the controversial act of force-feeding is still practiced in some parts of the country.

In the West African country of Mauritania, women and girls are forced fed to become fat in preparation for marriage.  Obesity is considered beautiful and obtained at all costs. Adult woman that are not big enough are resorting to dangerous drugs to gain weight rapidly. These morbidly obese women suffer from dangerous and sometimes deadly health ailments. Despite government warnings families continues to fatten up their daughters for marriage and women continue to take dangerous drugs. 

Many Mauritanians deny the practice of force feeding because of the world's negative view of it however, it still occurs in large numbers.  Girls as young as seven are suffer this abuse.

I Have A Confession To Make

I love reality TV.

Some of it may be very off-color and manufactured; but I love to see how people behave in different situations. Reality TV also makes me feel like I am not as bad as others; considering that most of the behavior on these shows is negative. The ultimate reason why I like reality TV is it reminds you that all people are the same, good or bad.

Reality Television is revered by many but it really is a guilty pleasure. If millions of people did not watch these shows they would not exist. Television executives make money by putting on shows that we want to see, thus the overwhelming amount of reality shows on TV. Many people say that they are repulsed by reality shows but continue to watch them in the privacy of their homes.
